In August, 2006 I took my seriously
ill cat to Hickory and Dr. Vanessa
Olenick was on duty in the Emergency Care Unit. The cat had to be hospitalized, and Dr. Olenick
was just wonderful about answering
my phone calls and faxes before and
after Mr. Lucky's discharge. He is
soon to celebrate his 4th birthday and is in great health!
I was less pleased with the treatment given to another cat,
"Philly Phlash", whom I took to
Hickory on Memorial Day weekend
2007 with a urinary tract blockage.
He was treated promptly in the
Emergency Care Unit and after parting company with $700 for
the catheterization procedure, I
asked the vet on duty what food
I should feed the cat. Her only
response was to "ask your regular
vet"! My regular vet was not available that weekend.
"Phlash's" urinaty tract
blocked up again within two days
and since I didn't have $1,500
for the needed surgery, I had to
have him euthanized. That cat meant
a great deal to me, because he had
belonged to my deceased sister.
Nearly a year later, I am just
now coming to terms with the fact
that I did all that I could do to
save "Phlash", but I'm still wondering why the vet on duty didn't suggest one of the specialty foods that Hickory sells!
I'm still trying to find it in my
heart to forgive her!
